In my celebrity editions, I will talk about anything and everything and perhaps post a couple of interviews I’ve done with some of our 9ja Celebs this year ( yes oh, Nigerican talked to some celebs one on one for a “nameless” mag that will now not be printed ,due to the peeps technical difficulties. However, since I did my job, I am sure as hell gonna make sure they get read). If u guys like, I might even dish on a certain escapade I had with a certain 9ja celeb named ……….. lol, ME… oh yeah u guys didn’t know myself and I have been in a lot of escapades together *smile* (minds outta the gutter pls… thank you)... and yes i am a self proclaimed celeb in my own soap :).
Anywho without further delay, I give you all my First Celebrity Edition…
INTRO
Everywhere we go, we always see someone who reminds us of someone we’ve met before. It may be facially, something they say, the way they dress… wateva. Well ever since our 9ja Celebs have been blowing up, I’ve derived such joy in matching them up to a main stream celeb I feel they posses’ similar characteristics with, or they are just down right mimicking. I give you my list of 9ja Celebs and their mainstream counterpart… Enjoy :).
Disclaimer- this is totally for fun and should not be found as offensive to anyone.
1)
Eve +
Foxy=
- I love Sasha, she is such an inspiration to many young 9ja girls. When I listen to our 1st Lady of Trybe records I totally hear E.V.E … no doubt Sasha raps like Sasha as well... but Eves influence cannot be shunned. When I look at her though, I see the ill Na Na herself, Miss Foxy Brown… I think it‘s because of her flawless dark skin and high cheeky cheek bones. Her lyrics are original and very catchy. In a predominately male driven occupation, this lil’ lady demands and is getting respect from other lyricist… Keep going Sasha, I trust they aint seen nothin yet *wink*2) DMX
+ a subtle sprinkle
of Ja Rule =
Ikechukuw- His bald head, well chiseled Spartan body, and his flawless brown skin are soooo to die for. Although this dude is talented, his first album scared me to death… and it was only an intro to who he is. Sound wise, I don’t care what anyone says but he has a DMX/JA Rule thing going on. I heard from a very reliable source that Ikechukwu is trying to soften his image and woo the ladies with a ton of love songs on his new album. I saw a fun side to you in the Dbanj "Close to you" Video, so I know he's not scary 24/7.Enuff with the hard guy, I’m ready for some wooing *wink* .3)Mario Winans
+
Brain Mcknight =
Banky W- His voice is soooo sexy and he is such a sweet person… a bit aloof but sweet. His songs do not fail when it comes to the tear shedding department. I chose Brain and Mario cus they are both talented mood setting singers, like Banky… AND… whiners, like Banky. U must admit he does whine alot ...or are those love songs?Although, i must give him props for having some up beat songs on his latest album, which has been the anthem in my car since June.I read recently that this young man is a survivour of cancer... for someone who has battled that monster twice, Mr Capable looks GREAT!!! . Keep writing and recording those baby making tracks... less apologizing more grinding... that's what i want :).4)Da Brat
+
Missy Elliot=
Weird Mc- Ok so I know she doesn’t sound anything like these two fabulous ladies , but one must admit they sure do have a lot in common, can anyone guess… yes, they all dress like guys( lol... watever). I don’t think I have to say much in this write-up ( no contraversies here) just that Weird Mc is a great artist regardless of watever .5)young Bobby
+
=
Dbanj- there are only three words to describe the KoKo Master … Crazy, Sexy, Cool. He has got the youth and stamina of young Bobby Brown, the stage presence/ unique fashion sense of Prince, and he is 100% African and proud like Fela. In all honesty, he is the embodiment of a true entertainer... this is all natural for him and so much fun for us to watch.6)Akon
+
Tpain=
Wande Coal - This guy can blow 4 real... I had the opportunity to hear him sing accapella, and unlike Tpain who has some computer ish going on ( but is still real good), this brother is for real. Wande, just like Akon and T Pain came on the scene and is rapidly taking over.He has a couple of singles and has featured on alot of folks albums... my only hope is that this talent does not become a professional "Featuring guy", cus I think this brother can control center stage ... He can so be a 9ice or Tuface any day. You are on your way hun... keep bellowing those catchy melodies.7)Usher
+
Ginuwine=
Psquare - Vocally these guys are good, lyrically they are on point, pronunciation wise*no comment*... one more thing these dudes do have down is dancing. These brothers can step... who cares if all their moves have been seen before *Usher*... on the real though these guys move on the same caliber as Usher and Ginuwine, all they need now is some original material. Take it to the streets Psquare for some inspiration... u already got u're game on lock , now spice it up.8)
LLcoolJ+
Cali West coast =
Saucekid- His sexy lips are so LL… but, his sound, movement, and even his lyrics are sooo West Coast. When I watch him perform, I see Ice, Pac, Dre... yes all legends I know, in a 9ja body *wink*... mark my words though, Sauce Kid is gonna be great, he has a lot of potential( i'm partial, he's from Cali :) ). Besides he is the only one that made a furry lil white pup look gangsta in L.A. . . . Make me proud Saucekibaba9)Day 26
+
JuniorM.a.f.i.a =
Mo Hits Crew-( xcluding Dbanj & Don Jazzy) When you first meet the guys, you feel like you might be on an episode of making the band. The Prince is sooo the Willie of the group … cute and has a killer fashion sense . Dr Sid is the Brain A. of the group but with the right stylist he could become the Robert or better yet Qwanell… he has potential everyone. The way the whole crew moves, they seem to have a Junior Mafia swagger going on about them. Watching these hommies interact is str8 comedy... here is a reality show somone needs to profit from...10)India Arie
+
Tracy Chapman=
Asa- this babe is super talented. Her music moves me in ways I cannot even begin to explain. Her acoustic soul vibe reminds me of India and her performance and stage presence is sooo Tracey. Asa is such a breath of fresh air for me; she is a great representation of all that is woman… respect, beauty, talent. As long as she continues to remain true to herself, mark my words this babe will be on MTV, not base… “MTV” the one everyone watches and will be a household name in minutes... if she isint already.Ok guys ten is a good number. I still have a ton of celebs to do... El dee, Don Jazzy, Omotola... tons more. Here what you all have to do though, until my next celeb issue :)
Let me know if I :
A)was on point
B) Almost there
C) Totally off…
Also, I know this list only has 3 ladies, however, we will be better represented next celeb issue.I am working on the next edition already, and we should have an even split …5 guys and 5 babes.
I hope you all enjoy my first celebrity edition and watch out for the second part… Kisses blog FAM.
